Easy access control thanks to RFID tags from UPM Raflatac
All people authorised by the organisers at this year’s Piemonte Mondiale in February – including members of the press, athletes, VIPs, the authorities, and operators – were issued with an RFID-enabled plastic ID card carrying their personal data and access rights. The same approach was used with vehicles, which were issued with similar RFID-enabled ID passes. People and vehicles were scanned with handheld RFID readers supplied by Brightpoint. Cards and vehicle passes were created and personalised using printers and encoders provided by Alfi, which was responsible for overall system integration. This year’s cooperation follows on from positive experience last year at the women's Alpine Ski World Cup, when HF inlays from UPM Raflatac were converted into PVC cards and tags by La Modulistica and issued and checked by a system implemented by Alfi in cooperation with Brightpoint. UPM Raflatac is a leading supplier of pressure-sensitive labelstock and manufacturer of RFID (radio frequency identification) tags and inlays. Labelstock from UPM Raflatac and new-generation Rafsec RFID products can meet the needs of demanding applications in a vast array of end-uses.
