Finland’s largest wind park handed over

Winwind Ltd. officially handed over Finland’s largest wind park to PVO-Innopower at Ajos in northern Finland at the end of February.

The facility consists of 10 WinWinD wind turbines rated at 3 MW each, with a hub height of 88 metres and a rotor diameter of 100 metres. Two of the units are located on the mainland and eight on artificial offshore islands.

Due to the difficult sea and ice conditions in the area, the project was an extremely challenging one in terms of both civil engineering and logistics.

In December last year, Winwind Ltd. announced that it is to build a new wind turbine plant at Hamina in southern Finland. Intended to assemble 3 MW units for the European market, the plant is expected to produce 160 units a year during its initial stage of operation. The announcement was accompanied by the news that the local utility, Haminan Energia, has ordered a 12 MW wind park to be built nearby in the Summa area of the town.

Winwind Ltd. also has a large wind turbine plant under construction in Chennai in India, which will serve the Asian market.
